Chase Basketball
A sports team’s dream of becoming the best their school has ever seen has come true.
The Year 9 basketball team at Chase High School, in Westcliff, are the Southend Borough Basketball Champions for the first time.
After winning 11 games out of 12 throughout the school year and winning all seven of their group stage mages, they went on to beat St Thomas More High School in the finals.
The team also won all three group games in the Essex Cup, losing out to Ormiston Park Academy – having reached the quarter finals for the first time in the school’s history.
PE teacher Michael Clark said: “I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication the boys have put in over the last year and a half to get to this point and to achieve the things they have this year.
“This is the first time that a Chase High boys team have won the borough basketball competition. An amazing achievement for both the boys and the school.
“This success is due to their hard work and dedication in training twice a week throughout last academic year up to now. They have always wanted to improve and learn and to be the most successful team the school has seen.
“It is a fantastic time to be a PE teacher at the school. We are having incredible numbers during most extra-curricular practices and students are more motivated than ever to succeed. As a department, we are doing a huge number of fixtures to provide as many opportunities for our students as possible.”
