GCSE Results 2024
Year 11 students returned to Chase High School to collect their GCSE results after the summer's exams.
The school's top-performing 16 students secured 80 of the highest grades - Grade 9 to 7 – between them.
Among the top-performing students this year were:
- Navika Srivastava, with seven Grade 9s and two Grade 7s
- Zachary Lamb, with two Grade 9s, five Grade 8s, one Grade 7 and Distinction
- Ayomide Akinwumiju, with four Grade 8s, three Grade 7s, one Grade 6 and Distinction*
- Head girl Sughra Shah, with two Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, one Grade 7, two Grade 6s and two Grade 5s
- Alberta Sarquah, with three Grade 8s and five Grade 7s
- Troy Schofield, with three Grade 8s, three grade 7s, two Grade 5s and Distinction*
- Wahid Ahmed, with two grade 8s, two Grade 7s, three Grade 6s, Merit and Distinction
- Linards Jurisons, with four Grade 8s, one Grade 7, two Grade 6s, one Grade 5 and Merit
- Grace King, with two Grade 9s, one Grade 8, two Grade 6s and three Grade 5s
- Phoebe Croucher, with two Grade 8s, two Grade 7s and three Grade 6s
Head girl Sughra Shah is continuing her studies at Chase High School as she loves the 'stress-free environment'.
The 16-year-old, from Westcliff, is staying on at the school's sixth form to study biology, government and politics and business.
She said: "I am really happy with my results. I was really excited to open them."
During her time at Chase High, Sughra was chosen as head girl after being put forward by one of her teachers.
As part of her role, she gave tours to new staff and prospective students and acted as a role model to younger peers.
She said: "My teacher put me forward to be head girl because of my work ethic. People looked up to me as head girl, but there were also expectations on me, from both other students and my teachers, in a good way.
"I felt like a role model and it was nice to have people look up to me. My leadership and communication skills have been improved by taking on the role."
Having loved her time at Chase, she is looking forward to staying on into the sixth form. She said: "The environment at Chase is so great and the atmosphere is amazing. The teachers gave me so much support.
"There is no stress; even during the GCSE exams, it did not feel like a pressured environment. It is a great place to be and I am really excited to stay on for my A-levels."
Meanwhile, top-performing student Navika Srivastava has praised her teachers for getting her to where she is today.
The 16-year-old is going to study maths, further maths, economics and politics at A-level with ambitions of a career in finance and economics.
She said: "I am incredibly happy with my results. I was not expecting all of the Grade 9s.
"I am just really grateful for my teachers; for all their support. I could not have done this without them.
"They provided me with extra past papers and marked them for me and that definitely helped me with my exams journey."
Navika was a Year 11 prefect at the school and said of her role: "It really showed me how teamwork pays off. It was really fun working with others.
"I am really happy to have been a prefect. It really helped to boost my confidence."
Headteacher Matt Suttenwood said: "We are incredibly proud of our students' performance in their GCSE exams. Their success is a testament to their hard work, determination and resilience.
"As a school, we celebrate progress as well as attainment and we wish all of our students all the best on the next stage of their educational journey. It has been a privilege to have worked with the students this year and to be a part of their journey at Chase High School.
"There have been so many well-deserved success stories and I wish all of the students the very best for the future."
